Sad news that touched me

Last week a 14 year old boy drowned in a lake in Berlin. He happend to be the ambassador’s son of Sierra Leone and he was also a pupil at the school my boyfriend teaches. Everybody was shocked and very sad, because he was such a nice boy. He was kind, friendly, and very well behaved. He was a very good sportsman and he played the drums as well. Its such a loss for his parents and all who knew him. I never personally met him, but it touched me deeply to hear, that such a good person had to die. The school did a memorial meeting, where some pupils had made a film in which they showed clips of the boy and interviewed his mates and the teachers. It was a very good film and such a good way for everybody to express their grief and let it out. There was a memorial service today at the church he and his parents attend, so we went to pay our respects. It was a very touching ceremony and tho it was a sad occasion, I’m glad I went. I’ll include a link to the embassy here and the article in the papers.

SL exploring with the group

I’m really still thrilled about the SL explore we did during the course. It was so good, that I tried to give it another go soon.

My further mission on my own wasn’t that successful as I told you, so I’m really encouraged now.

What did you think of the meeting saturday?

Be veggie?

The outbreak of a new found bacteria type called EHEC, kept people from eating raw cucumbers, tomatoes and salad for weeks, cause the officials gave a warning for those veges. Now as it turned out, the source is sprouts. Whether it was polluted seeds or a human carrying this bacteria, nobody seems to know. Now there is a warning of consuming raw sprouts…

This EHEC disease is in the media for a long time and 36 people died here in germany. The government seemed helpless to locate the source and is blamed for the lack of coordinating institutions. I am confused. Time and time again there is something different with food. We had the BSE Scandal, we had swine flu, nicotine poisened chicken, now it’s EHEC, what comes next? It irritates me everytime. why do things like that happen? There seems so much food control, but not enough? Whats the cause? Just conincidence? Last saturday I couldn’t find any cucumbers on the market. Today all the boxes at the supermarket just hold the cucumber 45p sign… so easy to trust and detrust? I dunno.

Tales and truth about the Germans

After flipping through quite a lot of blogs (and lots of ‘ill-informed’ rubbish people write) this blog caught my attention. It’s not that I like this topics that much, but it’s part of my own history and I’m amazed how people can be right or ever so mistaken in their points of view about the Germans.

The blog started, because a guy was taken to court for crimes he committed during the Hitlerregime. I find it odd, to read what people (mostly from Northamerica) think about the nowadays Germans or accusing them for letting those Criminals escape. I have problems to find the right words for it, to be honest. Maybe ‘ill-informed’ is the nicest I can find. I wish people would read more objective articles, blogs or books. So they can stick to the facts not tales they heard from old propaganda.

Do you have an oppinion about the Germans? You don’t have to be nice, just speak your mind.;) I’m not happy with the 3rd Reich history of my country either, but I really like to hear you comments, what you heard (from your parents, grandparents etc) or what you think today. Looking forward to that x

Hi there

Hello everybody,

my name is Conny Dege and I’m from Germany.

I work for the national health insurance and I’m communicating with people all day at the Service-Phone-Line. That’s what I love in my job. Meeting different people, different needs and trying to help, tho some customers are not always happy about my answers as you can  imagine.;)

I have always loved to get together with people, so I was very eager to learn english at school when the lessons started and tried to improve by writing letters to penfriends. I am language-lover but I haven’t developped any as much as english. I love to travel, I like to learn about different cultures, meeting people and hear their stories. I have worked in the UK for 6 months some years ago and travelled European countries. Am really excited to get this course started. Feel free to say hi. See you soon
